What was this TikTok Redesign?

This redesign reimagines TikTok with a more user-friendly, engaging, and seamless experience. By addressing common frustrations—like battery drain, limited comment interactions, and a disconnected shop—I introduced solutions that enhance how users interact with the platform. Small changes can make a big impact, and this redesign focuses on refining the experience without losing what makes TikTok fun and dynamic.

Design Process

In my early web design journey, I reimagined popular apps, enhancing features where I saw room for improvement. This TikTok redesign focuses on elevating the shop, profile, and idle viewing experience for a more seamless user journey.

One major issue I set out to solve was battery drain from TikTok’s continuous autoplay. Whether users fall asleep watching or step away for a while, idle viewing can quickly drain their device. To fix this, I introduced customizable idle viewing settings—allowing users to set auto-stop times, receive ‘Still Watching?’ prompts, and eventually let the app time out to preserve battery life.

Final Outcome

I finally wanted to enhance how users express themselves in the comments. By adding support for memes and GIFs, conversations become more dynamic and engaging. Additionally, I introduced a feature allowing account holders to pin comments, ensuring top interactions are highlighted and seen first.
